4 Card Mind Control

Effect

A magician displays a deck of cards (or borrows one from someone) and shows them to a spectator. He asks the spectator to shuffle the deck and pick out any 4 cards of their choice. The spectator picks four random cards and gives them to the magician, then asks the spectator, 'What is your favourite card out of these 4?' The spectator chooses the two of spades (for example). The magician turns the four cards face down on the table and asks the spectator to mix the cards without looking, and asks them to believe that they know where their card is while the magician's back is turned. The magician turns around, looks at the cards and is then going to get a mental thought of which face down card is the 2S.

The magician shows his palm to the spectator and says 'I want you to look at my palm and visualize as if you know where the 2S is'. The magician takes his hand, puts it on a card and flips it over showing the correct card, despite the cards being mixed so neither magician nor spectator knew where the card was!

Effect

None

Effect

A deck of cards is shuffled by a spectator and any amount of random cards are chosen, they are asked which card is their favourite out of the cards chosen and the 2S is their card. Before the magician gives the 4 cards to the spectator, he crimps (bends) the 2S secretly, but just a little bit, not to make it too obvious, and tells the spectator to mix the cards up with their eyes closed while the magician turns around.

After the cards are mixed and face down, the magician is going to get a mental thought of the card that is the 2S and asks the spectator to think really hard as if they know the spot of the card. The magician puts his hand down on the cards to feel for the slight little bent he made earlier on the one card so that he knows what card is the right one to flip over.

Advice: When you tell the spectator to pick their favourite card out of the four, ask them if they are sure they want that card and tell them that it is a totally free selection and that you're not trying to influence them in anyway. Make sure that when you say all of this, your bending the chosen card without them knowing anything.

21 Cards

Effect

This is a mathematical based trick involving three rows of twenty-one cards. After dealing them out a couple of times, you can deduce the spectator's card.

Sleights

Shuffle

Method

1. You set up 3 rows of 7 cards each, face up.
Photobucket
2. You have someone come up and think of one of the cards (not telling you what it is).
3. Ask which row of cards their card is in
4. Gather up the cards, but be sure to put the row they said INTO THE MIDDLE of the 3 piles. Lay the cards out again, like this. Deal three cards in a column, then the another three cards in a column next to the first. Deal the rest the same way, until you again have 3 rows of 7 cards each. Ask again which row. Gather the cards and repeat for the third time. (Remember to put their row in the MIDDLE of the pile.) The 3rd time, you know what card it is because when you ask them which row, it's the 4th card in that row.

Advice: Here are two alternative endings -

* Say you will find their card. Shuffle, then flip cards into a face up pile, until you go past theirs. Say: "The next card I flip will be yours." They'll be thinking: " he/she doesn't know it went by already..." You amaze them by flipping over their card in the discard pile!
* You can square the deck out (so it's face down) and explain that the word ABRACADABRA is a very magical word which changes and truly defies nature! Spelling ABRACADABRA, deal out the cards face down, one for each letter. So you would be spelling A-B-R-A-C-A-D-A-B-R-A , at the last A you should have 10 cards already dealt out onto the table, pause for a beat at the 11th letter of ABRACADABRA, and turn over the card to reveal it to be the spectators!

1 to 52

Effect

A spectator selects a card and inserts it into the deck. The magician asks for a number '1 to 52'. After the number has been told to everyone the magician deals that many cards off of the top onto the table. Upon turning the card over it is obvious that some mistake was made. The magician then puts the cards back onto the deck and allows the spectator to repeat this action. To there surprise they have found their card.

Card Controlling

Method

Fan the cards out for selection. After the card has been selected and returned to deck, use any method you like to control it to the top. Then ask the spectator to think of any number from 1 to 52. Deal that many cards off of the top on to the table. The card that comes up will obviously not be their card, but their card will be on the bottom of the packet dealt on the table.

Now pretend to show disbelief that the trick has failed. Place the face down packet from the table onto the deck, their card will now be at the lucky number.

Offer the deck to them, and have the same actions repeated by the spectator. They will find their card at the number they have chosen.
